Prep School

The Junior School follows the programmes of study as prescribed in the English National Curriculum. However, as is fitting in any international setting, there have been adaptations, both in terms of the content taught and the methodology in teaching it, to meet the specific needs of our pupil population.

Shrewsbury is proud of its strong academic emphasis. In the Junior school it is a tradition that is fostered in a warm and nurturing environment. Small class sizes ensure that each child receives the individual support that they require in their all round development as people.

The Junior School, which caters for pupils 3 years and upwards, is divided into Pre-Prep and Prep Departments, and these in turn cater to the three phases of a child's learning at the primary school level.

Keys Stage 2

The four years that pupils spend in the Prep School at Key Stage 2, build on and develop the great strides they have made in the Pre-Prep School. We believe it is our responsibility to provide an exciting and stimulating environment in which children can discover and then make the most of their talents.

Every class has a maximum of twenty pupils, and it is through a wide range of challenges and experiences that our pupils develop lively, questioning and informed minds. They have the opportunity to explore, investigate and analyse during the course of their academic studies.

Field trips out of school, concerts, productions, sports competitions and a vast range of extra-curricular activities add breadth and interest to our pupils as they are guided towards the Senior School. Class and specialist teachers deliver the academic curriculum, which includes the following major areas: English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Art, Music, Physical Education and Modern Foreign Languages, including Mandarin, French, Japanese and Thai.

High academic and social standards are our expectation. A team of truly dedicated teachers and assistant teachers support pupils as they grow into self-confident, high-achieving and compassionate members of the community.
