Our students are....
...Innovative Thinkers
Our objective:
Shrewsbury International School aims to encourage our students to learn to think in the classroom and at home, to develop the confidence to be innovators, to stop to think about life and to appreciate the value of reflection.
Our students:
1.are given opportunities and time in the classroom to think in order to develop ideas and solve problems;
2.are taught how to think and are given the language of thinking and thinking strategies;
3.are encouraged to take risks and to be innovative in their approach to the challenges of school life;
4.are given opportunities in the “You-Time!” programme to think and explore;
5.are encouraged to use the library in both curriculum and free time;
6.are encouraged to read at school and at home so that they come to understand the link between language and thought.
Our teachers:
1.provide time in the classroom for students to think;
2.nurture an approach to the curriculum and teaching that values thoughts and ideas;
3.build into their planning and preparation time for students to think and explore;
4.contribute fully to the “You-Time!” programme;
5.through their own example encourage reading.
Our parents:
1.surround their children with books;
2.make time for their children to read, to discuss and to debate;
3.spend time with their children on home-learning tasks.
Our measurements:
1.The school leaders with academic responsibility will incorporate into their advice on schemes of work commentary on creative and critical thinking skills and opportunities for reading;
2.The Performance Management System for Teachers will assess thinking opportunities in the classroom and home-learning assignments;
3.Library usage will be monitored and quantified by the School Librarian with annual results published.
