Team Shrewsbury

The Music Excellence programme has become an established feature of the school’s “You Time” ECA programme. Musicians at Shrewsbury International School are able to participate in any number of chamber ensembles, choirs and larger ensembles that rehearse during lunchtimes and after school. Chamber Ensembles and Choirs are given the opportunity to perform in at least one of our Wednesday afternoon concerts that are ongoing throughout the academic year. Larger ensembles, e.g Symphony Orchestra, Intermediate Orchestra, Swing Band etc feature in major end of term or end of year events as well as other special events that may occur throughout the school year. e.g Ploenchit Fair and Last night of the Proms. ABRSM Music Theory classes are also run before school, during lunchtimes and after school where necessary in order to accommodate those pupils who wish to move beyond ABRSM Grade V on their instruments.

Gifted and Talented

The Gifted and Talented programme runs in tandem with our Music Excellence programme and is designed to give our music scholars and top musicians the opportunity to perform at their highest level on an appropriate stage.  In particular at the end of term 2 our “Gifted and Talented” concert highlights our “Best of the Best”. Our most recent event showcased a variety of chamber ensembles performing works by Telemann, Mozart, Haydn, J.C. Bach, Frolov, Mendelssohn, and J.S. Bach Concerto for two violins in D minor. Vocal solos also featured as did an A Cappella group consisting mainly of music scholars.
