School library

The library is both metaphorically and literally at the heart of Shrewsbury International School, a combined space at the centre of the building that caters to all students across the Junior and Senior schools.  Students in Junior School visit the library on a weekly basis with their class, as well as being able to visit before and after school.  In senior school this is continued with classes from a variety of subjects visiting for reading or research activities.  Parents and teachers also use the library, both to support our students and for their personal reading. 

The library is extremely popular; about 6,000 books and other items are borrowed every month, and we will often have more than 70 students visiting the library independently during break or lunchtime.  We also run several activities each week after school, including three different You-time! groups, a Storytime for our younger children and their parents, and Senior Supervision Time each day for our senior students. 

We have approximately 30,000 books, and our library resources are further enhanced by collections of CDs and DVDs, extensive journal holdings, and a variety of subject-specific online resource subscriptions.  Included in this are junior and senior foreign language collections to support Thai and each of the four other languages taught in school.  Every half term new orders arrive to ensure that we get all the latest books for our students to read.

The school library is open Monday to Friday, from 7.15am until 4pm, and parents are invited to visit before and after school (7.15–7.40am and 2.30–4pm). Our five library staff are friendly, polite and professional, and we look forward to welcoming you and showing you around.
