PE

The PE department at Shrewsbury International School offers specialist teaching from Early Years through to Year 13. The students cover an adapted version of the British National Curriculum. The Schemes of Work have been designed to help students to develop their Physical skills and mental capacity, an ability to make decisions, evaluate and improve their performance and more importantly to teach them about the importance of leading a healthy and active lifestyle. This means they must participate in a range of sports and activities as a player, coach, leader and official.  

Key Stage 1

Students in Key Stage 1, partake in three periods per week that encompass one lesson on Swimming and Water Skills, one on movement via Dance and Gymnastics and a Foundation Games session.

Key Stage 2

At Key Stage 2, students move into a development stage of the curriculum and follow three strands. These are Games (Invasion / Net Wall / Strike & Field), PE Activities (Health & Fitness/ Gymnastics/ Athletics/Problem Solving) and Swimming. The Games and PE lessons are taught in mixed gender ability sets and Swimming is taught within their class groups

It seeks to ensure that all students acquire the knowledge, combined with social and physical skills, to enable them to maintain a lifelong healthy and active lifestyle.

The PE department aims to:

•deliver a high quality, enjoyable, balanced, challenging and progressive curriculum that is accessible to all students

•promote positive attitudes towards an understanding of the importance of life long physical activity

•foster an appreciation of safe practice

•develop a sense of fair play and sportsmanship
