Music

Early Years and Key Stages 1 and 2

At Early Years and Key Stage 1 our pupils receive 1 lesson of specialist classroom music per week. At Key Stage 2 our pupils receive 2 lessons of specialist classroom music per week. The music curriculum delivered at Shrewsbury International School encapsulates the 3 basic skill requirements established in the UK National Curriculum Document for Music of listening, composing and performing. The award winning “Music Express” series of books for Early Years and Key Stages 1 and 2 up to and including Yr 6 are used as a valuable teaching resource. By using appropriate musical stimuli, pupils are introduced to the basic building blocks of music i.e rhythm, pitch, timbre etc, and taught how to employ these in a meaningful way. To facilitate learning objectives, pupils use a variety of tuned and tuned percussion instruments as well their own voices and keyboards.
