Modern Foreign Languages

Our aim is for our students to become confident, fluent and eloquent in a Modern Foreign Language (MFL). Simultaneously, the students will be finding out about the people, country, culture and history of the countries in which the language is spoken. We make the very best use of modern technology (Interactive whiteboards, web-based resources, ICT and other media) to compliment and enhance our teaching of the communicative and grammatical elements of the target language.

Pupils are able to choose from French, Japanese, Mandarin and Spanish. Specialist language teaching begins in Year 3 and is compulsory until the end of Year 9. All four language options are available at GCSE and A Level.

Key Stage 2

All MFL lessons are delivered specialist language teachers in dedicated MFL teaching rooms using age appropriate resources. The lessons aim to make the learning of the language fun for all involved while still recognising the essential need for a solid grounding in the grammatical elements of the new language.
