ICT
Our Aim
The ICT curriculum is designed to equip pupils with the skills and knowledge they need to make use of ICT in the wider curriculum, and to allow them to become confident and independent users of ICT in the world at large. We aim to create a continuous curriculum that is coherent throughout the Key Stages, with a progression of skills learned, building to a high level of proficiency in all important ICT areas. We see ICT proficiency and expertise as being an essential life skill for all our students. In Early Years ICT is taught by the class teacher in a purpose built lab.
The ICT department is staffed with five full-time specialist teachers. All pupils from Year 1 to Year 6 are taught by specialist staff. There are six purpose built computer rooms with facilities tailored for younger children in the lower years, offering each pupil their own computer to work on. Internet access is available on all computers. Interactive Whiteboards are increasingly used in ICT and other subjects.
The curriculum is mainly based upon the National Curriculum study units. The software packages used in Years 1 to 6 are mainly purpose-built to support elements of the National Curriculum. We also begin to introduce the pupils to Microsoft Office. The software packages we use are:
Pre-Prep - 2Simple Infant Video Toolkit (2Paint, 2Publish, 2Count, 2Go, 2Graph and 2Question), 2Model, Dazzle 03, Roamer, Roamer World, My World, Type to Learn Junior, Compose World Junior and Microsoft Word.
Key Stage 2 - Years 3 to 6
Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, FrontPage, 2Investigate, 2Question+, 2Animate, Information Workshop, Dazzle 03, Aspex Draw, Photo Shop Elements, Type to Learn 3, Flowol2, Robolab, Scratch, Kar2ouche (Romans, Tudors and Egyptians), Terrapin Logo, Flowol, Roller Coaster Tycoon.
