Music is a flagship for Shrewsbury International School, and in a school that is renowned for staging musical concerts and recitals of the highest quality, our Music Scholars represent the very highest standards of musicianship and dedication. Many of our music scholars progress to world-class conservatory programmes and careers as professional musicians.
We focus on ensuring that all of our musicians are fully prepared and have ample opportunity to perform at the appropriate level, and on an appropriate stage – as part of school’s own calendar of recitals and concerts – and in examinations and competitions beyond the school itself.
Music scholars have the opportunity to:
- Perform as part of the Symphony Orchestra, Ensembles and Choirs;
- Join a thriving and lively classical and contemporary music scene;
- Receive expert tuition and mentoring;
- Enjoy masterclasses from visiting professors.
Scholarship applications are welcome from musicians of any age, providing that the entry criteria are met. Scholars must be at least ABRSM Grade 8 standard in their first instrument, and should normally be Grade 6 standard in a second instrument or voice.

(Please note that all scholarship applicants who are not currently students at Shrewsbury also also required to submit a standard student application form and submit all supporting documents. The offer of a scholarship will depend on the Applicant meeting the school's standard entry criteria, as well as their musical ability and potential).
